Life of a teacher

In the first block of TE coping with life of a teacher was easier as I had to do 1 day only. During the second block of TE it was more challenging. I had to complete my lessons and lesson plans and work the life of a teacher into it. I made sure that I spoke to the teachers days before I planned on doing the life of a teacher. This gave me time to plan lessons and to make sure I was where I needed to be.

In block 1 I was nervous to take on the role as the teacher. I constantly questioned myself asking if what I am doing is correct. In block 2 I had more confidence. The teacher assisted me where I needed to be assisted and gave me the opportunity to present lessons differently compared to the way he would have. I enjoyed life of the teacher in block 2 more as it was more enjoyable and I was given the freedom.

The activities that i found most challenging was doing the teachers registered as they have a specific way of doing their register. The teachers also do a period register every lesson so to complete it every lesson was difficult as I had to remember to complete it. I found it difficult at the beginning to balance both teaching life, admin and extra murals but eventually got the hang of it.

I have improved my competencies throughout this experience by taking the time out to learn skills that. I asked a lot of questions to gain deeper understanding and knowledge about certain things in the school and asked teachers how they deal or dealt with certain situations.

Overall this experience was an eye opener. Many students do not get the opportunity to complete the teachers admin. This has showed me that there is more to teaching than standing in front of a classroom and teaching a topic.
