My Social action project

My social action project was called food for thought. the reason behind this was to create awareness to learners to think about the less fortunate when buying a tin or baked beans, tomato gravy, tuna etc. Based on the prices of food the social project was aimed to create awareness to provide for the less fortunate. The learners were asked to donate as many non-perishable food items to donate to St Lawrence Children's Haven.

The drive went well as many children from all the grades donated as many items as they possibly could, thus made it possible for us to donate to the organization. we have collected a total amount of 275 items which varied from tin food to 2minute noodles and further to few snacks such as crisp. As much as I was expecting more, it think it was an incredible amount to collect as the food prices are increasing.

This social action project changed me personally in a positive way. This project has made me realize that there is more to life than worrying about the things you don't have. It has made me realize that for all the tings I'm unhappy about in my life, there is someone who does not have what I do. The St Lawrence children's haven has made me realize that there are kids out there that have been abused and have been neglected. they grow up without their parents but they gain so many more siblings as well. I am more willing now to open up to more charities and community out reaches as some people need the clothes and food more than I do. I think a lot of the times we take for granted what we have and sometimes are ungrateful for the little things we have. I am more appreciative for the household I grew up in and the parents I still have.

I have grown so much professionally. I now look at the learners in a different way. I am no more that teacher that would ask learners why they look untidy or ask the learners what happened to their jackets because they are ripped badly. I now realize that all learners are different and what one learner has the next might not have. This is where I would like to come in. I would like to ask the second hand shop at the school to donate a few items to specific learners. I would like Teachers to be aware that not al children can afford a new jacket once the old one rips. I now help those learners who need help.

When I went through the house of the children in the Haven, it looked like those kids lacked nothing. All the rooms were neat and modern. However it looks that way from all the donations from people. This project benefitted the Haven in a way that they didn't have to worry where the money for the next eat would come from, they didn't have to worry what their next meal was. I think the school could do this drive every year during the month of June for Mandela day. This could create some sustainability for the Haven knowing that for the month or even a few weeks in July, there will be food for the kids to eat.

Great work did a similar drive for my social action as well. Very rewarding experience and what you've mentioned about the sustainability is definitely a strength of these types of projects. Based on the article you have truly achieved all the outcomes and made a resoundingly positive impact on the community.

There is clear indication of thoughtful planning and execution on your social action project. The problem you've chosen to focus on is one that is present in many communities. The initiative has been successful in raising awareness while providing children with information about the basic necessities that many others do not have access to.
